What is a Class "D" License?

In the state of Florida, working for a private security company requires a license! The Class "D" license permits work as an unarmed security officer. In order to obtain a Class "D" license, you must meet certain requirements outlined by Florida Statutes Chapter 493:
  • You must at least 18 years old.
  • You must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • You must not have any disqualifying criminal history.
  • You must complete a minimum of 40 hours of professional training provided by a security officer school or training facility licensed by Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  Equivalent law enforcement or military training may fulfill this requirement.
Licenses are distributed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). Once you meet all the requirements above and submit your application, you can begin work as a security officer!
